Riversdale
A striking 700 sqft side extension and remodelling of a century old converted boathouse situated directly on the River Thames in Bourne End, with floor level and terraces raised to flood resilient levels. The design developed by HAA references traditional wooden ‘runabout’ speedboats gliding through the waters.
The overhanging wedge-shaped roof appears to float above the lightweight structure with large expanses of glazing reflecting the river. Light colour timber cladding and a grey-green zinc roof continue the maritime theme.
Expansive rooflights and clerestory glazing fill the spaces with light throughout the day, with large sliding doors and glazed corner provide glorious views of the river. Internal alterations included a new bathroom on the First Floor and insertion or rooflights in a previous dark and long corridor.
